b) image, likeness (of resemblance)

c) mere, empty, image, semblance (fig.)

 

Rom 8:29

1) an image, figure, likeness

a) an image of the things (the heavenly things)

1) used of the moral likeness of renewed men to God

2) the image of the Son of God, into which true Christians are transformed, is likeness not only to the heavenly body, but also to the most holy and blessed state of mind, which Christ possesses

b) the image of one

1) one in whom the likeness of any one is seen

2) applied to man on account of his power of command

3) to Christ on account of his divine nature and absolute moral excellence

(a) of man as he was created as being a visible representation of God, 1Cr 11:7, a being corresponding to the original; the condition of man as a fallen creature has not entirely effaced the "image;" he is still suitable to bear responsibility, he still has Godlike qualities, such as love of goodness and beauty, none of which are found in a mere animal; in the Fall man ceased to be a perfect vehicle for the representation of God; God's grace in Christ will yet accomplish more than what Adam lost;

(b) of regenerate persons, in being moral representations of what God is, Col 3:10; cp. Eph 4:24;

(c) of believers, in their glorified state, not merely as resembling Christ but representing Him, Rom 8:29; 1Cr 15:49; here the perfection is the work of Divine grace; believers are yet to represent, not something like Him, but what He is in Himself, both in His spiritual body and in His moral character;

 

• BEING CREATED IN THE IMAGE OF GOD IS MORE THAN JUST BEING A “SPIRIT BEING” AS HE IS.
• YES … INDEED HUMANS ARE SPIRIT BEINGS, WHO HAVE A SOUL AND LIVE IN A BODY.
• BUT BEING CREATED IN HIS IMAGE IS MORE THAN JUST THAT FACT.
• IT IS ALSO ABOUT HIS NATURE, CHARACTER AND ABILITY.

• WHAT MIND?
• THE MIND OF CHRIST THAT IS HIS ATTITUDE, CHARACTER AND EVEN THOUGHT PROCESS
• EVERY THOUGHT OF JESUS WAS IN UNITY WITH THE THOUGHTS OF THE FATHER
• JESUS ALWAYS HAD THE GOD THOUGHT, HE DIDN’T DWELL ON THE EVIL HE WAS CONFRONTED WITH.
• HE ALWAYS FACED THE WORST OF THE WORLD WITH THE BEST OF GOD
• ONE REASON WAS THE DISCIPLINE OF HIS THOUGHT LIFE.
• WE ARE TOLD TO “THINK ON THESE THINGS”, IN SHORT THE GOOD THINGS. IF IT WEREN’T POSSIBLE FOR US TO DO THIS GOD WOULDN’T TELL US TO DO IT.
• JESUS IS OUR EXAMPLE IN ALL THINGS, INCLUDING THE “SOUND” OR “DISCIPLINED” MIND AND THE “PROSPEROUS SOUL”.

• BEFORE YOU CAN “LET THIS MIND” BE IN YOU, YOU WILL HAVE TO ALLOW YOURSELF TO BELIEVE THAT IT IS POSSIBLE FOR YOU TO THINK LIKE GOD.
• YOU AND I CAN LEARN HIS WAYS. MOSES DID.
• YOU AND I CAN THINK HIS THOUGHTS. JOSHUA DID.
• YOU AND I CAN MEDITATE IN HIS WORD DAY AND NIGHT.
• IT IS A SPIRITUAL LAW THAT WE BECOME WHAT WE BEHOLD.
• THE MORE WE LOOK AT HIM THE LIKE HIM WE WILL BECOME.
• WHAT WE ALLOW TO CAPTURE OUR ATTENTION IS COMPLETELY UP TO US. WE ARE THE GUARDIANS OF OUR HEARTS AND MINDS.
• IF THE WORDS OF OUR MOUTHS AND THE MEDITATIONS OF OUR HEARTS ARE PLEASING TO HIM, THE LIVES WE LIVE WILL BE ALSO.
• BE NOT CONFORMED TO THIS WORLD (IT IMAGE OF YOU) BUT BE YE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND.
• BEHOLD HIM. MEDITATE IN THE LAW OF LOVE DAY AND NIGHT. YOU WILL PROSPER EVEN AS HE DID AND BE A LIGHT IN YOUR WORLD. PEOPLE WILL SEE HIM IN YOU. HIS IMAGE WILL BE DISPLAYED AND THAT’S WHAT ITS ABOUT, PEOPLE SEEING AND COMING TO KNOW JESUS. AMEN.
